Revitalise Your Brand: A Visual Transformation with health & fitness company NuStrength featuring Kitty Blomfield

"We bloody love these guys! We’ve done multi shoots with them and couldn’t be happier! Our last shoot was the best one yet. Em made us feel so comfortable and even sexy! She’s so great at making it fun and helps with the posing the photos were incredible, can’t recommend Em and Andy enough. Andy even did our wedding."

Loyal clients of LP, esteemed health and fitness figures Kitty Blomfield and Craig McDonald, recently commissioned LP for an extensive photoshoot aimed at revitalising their company NuStrength's online presence. The objective? To curate a compelling visual narrative for their imminent website update and social media platforms. During this two-hour branding session, LP photographed both single and duo set-ups for Kitty and Craig, giving them a range of content over several different settings ranging from the kitchen to various backdrops and lighting setups, all within the LP Studio in Brisbane.

Here we detail some of the techniques and methods LP used to provide exactly what was needed for the entrepreneurial couple to really make their imagery have impact and aligning with their values!

Kitty and Craig pride themselves on helping women transform their bodies through improved metabolic function and strength training. They do this through programs, a podcast and a food tracking app and regularly share their advice through their online platforms, creating a huge following in their clients worldwide. Kitty has been featured on Sunrise, 10, Nine, Women’s Weekly and many other publications for her transformative ways. LP captured imagery that represents their goals, while also presenting a friendly and helpful professional coach giving NuStrength new branding imagery that takes their online presence to the next level.

In all our imagery, we photographed with the end result in mind…. Graphics, text and messages to be displayed on their website and social media. We planned the imagery with negative space and landscape and portrait orientation imagery to align for all platforms.

Throughout the photoshoot, LP photographed Kitty and Craig both separately and together. By representing their easy nature with each other in a fun and cohesive way, we can convey their work as a couple and how that is of greater benefit to clients.

LP photographers are highly experienced in directing and posing our clients for the best possible outcome. See below, where the client wanted imagery that could be worked seamlessly into the website, or be used to bring attention to certain text.

We love working with health and wellbeing professionals, whether that be in the fitness and health space, nutritionists, yoga and meditation, councillors, health coaches…. HEALTH is one of our core values, which is why we understand our clients so well and can document their needs so accurately.

We recently worked with Jane from Haven Yoga & Meditation at her studio to capture her in action, as well as some services they offer, the atmosphere of the yoga studio and some commercial portraits. This variety of imagery was achieved in an hour and is great content for social, website and marketing/advertising.

Showcasing your Business Services Through Professional Commercial Imagery: Shique Beauty

Ask yourself, what’s the most attention grabbing thing when someone searches for you, your company or your product? Imagery!

Your imagery reflects your brand. As a service provider, photographs of you working in your field is vital in portraying your personal brand or creating a personal connection with potential future clients.

Under the LP Commercial Photography brand, I captured some commercial branding imagery for the lovely team at Shique Beauty to capture their services, their personalised service and their friendly and 5 star customer service. Such a lovely, open and glowing group of ladies who are amazing at what they do - hair, make-up and beauty services.

The imagery that reflects your brand is the first contact many people will have with you. Simply having well taken imagery is not enough. At a glance, those images must also communicate and uphold your brand identity and core values. In a crowded marketplace identifying photographers who can achieve both stunning images and effectively communicate brand values is critical.

Get it wrong and best case scenario is you will need to spend more money on more imagery, worst case scenario is the imagery could alienate your consumers and clientele and have a real negative effect on your bottom line. Too often, people buy purely on cost then find that the cheapest option only ends up costing far more in the long run.

My business partner, Andy and I are dedicated to working hand-in-hand with our clients to ensure a rewarding and enjoyable working experience and collaboration of minds to create pride in the end result among all those involved in a commission.

The Art of Studio Photography: Brisbane Branding, Commercial, Lifestyle, Fitness & Portrait Photographers

The studio can be the most elegant of backdrops; beautifully crafted light, seamless backdrops, with you, the photographer, in full control. However, it can also be a very difficult space to work with if you don’t think outside the box and know your lighting….

In studio is where perfection is created. It’s the place where the photographer has complete control over everything from the content of the image to how it’s lit. It is where the photographer is no longer at the whim of nature and the sun (or lack of it) but can create any style of light required for an image from wonderful soft sunlight to the harsh contrast of the spotlight… as long as they know what they are doing.

To a photographer that hasn’t studied their lighting, a studio session can prove difficult producing unpleasant results of overlit, brightly glaring shots or maybe deep shadows and darkness.

While we love and thrive on the challenges of location shooting, using a mix of ambient and flash lighting and strange and beautiful locations, we love taking complete control over our photoshoots and working in the studio.

It’s here we can take the time to craft and create exactly the right kind of light for each photoshoot. It’s where you can think outside the box and use different backdrops and props to create your own interesting scene that perfectly compliment your subject rather than having to accept what nature gives you on location.

Across our portrait and commercial brands, we do a lot of photoshoots in studio for health, fitness, couples, commercial portraits, lifestyle imagery and products. We wanted to take you through some of the incredible results we can achieve with your imagery within the constraints of the studio.

Whether we’re photographing branding imagery or personal imagery, we love to create something unique! Coloured backgrounds, white or black backgrounds, smoke machines, water, props…. We love to make it fun for our clients and the images speak for themselves.

We have a number of Brisbane Studio Photography days ready to be booked! Book your session, a 30 minute express or 60 minute photoshoot for your commercial, corporate, lifestyle, fitness, boudoir or personal imagery. Book your session below!

Health, Fitness & Nutrition Online & Social Photography Campaign: Win at Life by NuStrength

Health, Fitness & Nutrition Online & Social Photography Campaign: Win at Life by NuStrength

BRIEF

LP Commercial Photography were commissioned by Kitty Blomfield and Craig McDonald of Win at Life, NuStrength to create a library of professional imagery with a focus on their branding to be used for their new website rebrand, future cookbook, e-books and for their social media feeds.

The clients created the following brief for us as a guide for the full day commercial photoshoot to deliver a range of images for use across social media and the website; hero image, about, sales page, banner images etc.

Photo types

  • Personal Branding - Portraiture, Lifestyle

  • Some Stock Imagery for Website Banners - Tech Accessories, Food, Weights etc

Direction Summary

  • Imagery should feature the client’s visual brand (colours, expressions, wardrobe)

  • Photos should be minimal in order to leave negative space for design elements

  • Client’s personality should read through the photos

  • Feature Brand colours

Do’s & Don’t

  • Do; Shoot in bright, natural lighting; Shoot against plain backgrounds in either bright neutral tones or in established visual brand colors; Provide plenty of negative space; Position poses in a natural and inviting way; Position poses that give the audience a sense of the services provided (eg. at a laptop, in nature, yoga, etc.)

  • DO NOT; Obstruct the face; Provide busy/distracting backgrounds (eg. too many plants, graffiti walls, stark shadows); Provide backgrounds that may clash with established visual brand colors

Must Get Shots for Website Pages:

  • HERO SHOT: A hero shot is the widest photo we will use on the site and is the main header shot a visitor will see upon entering the website. This is the most important shot as it is what we design the website around. Please have these in a landscape format.

    Recommendations:

    • Plenty of negative space against a plain background

    • Several alignments - center, left-aligned, right aligned

    • Close-up shots or slightly further away (torso up)

    • No full body shots for hero

    • Poses that feel most natural - smiling, laughing, etc

  • ABOUT SECTION: These photos are best in a portrait style.

    Recommendations:

    • Natural poses and expressions

    • Shots that are nice to have include: against a wall, in a chair, with negative space on top

  • MISC. SECTIONS: These are “stock” photo ideas for sections that are meant to highlight the client’s offerings/content.
    Recommendations:

    • Brightly lit

    • Something that doesn’t look like a stock photo - has personality

    • Landscape and portrait formats

    • Images of tools that indicate the client’s offering (eg. laptops, cameras, microphones, desk setup, etc.)

A Real Estate Lifestyle Campaign: Marketing & Lifestyle Imagery to suit your Target Market

Client Brief:

LP Commercial Photography were commissioned to create an array of images for marketing and advertising purposes, creating a ‘lifestyle' through imagery around living in this new townhouse development in the Sunshine Coast. The 2 day shoot involved coordinating and posing talent, creating a variety of angles, image layouts and variations of talent for use across web, social and print and working with the client to create imagery that represented their target marketing and goals of the marketing campaign.

5 Tips to Nail your Corporate Headshots: Brisbane Commercial Photography

The Corporate Headshot… the one type of photograph that everyone needs, every company wants, but most don’t give enough thought to.

Headshots are one of the most important images for your brand or your company. Whether it is on your business card, your LinkedIn profile, your website, your social media, it will often be the first contact people will have when they are researching you and what ultimately lead to your potential customer forming an opinion about you or your service/business.

So what is the perfect corporate headshot?

The white background head and shoulders, the ‘in office’ shot backed by a mass of books or pictures or elements to do with your work… the dynamic thinking person pose staring off into the distance…. The list is endless.

The bottom line is the perfect headshot is the one that reflects you and your business’ core values and brand accurately and creates a connection with your customers, clients or audience. If you communicate to multiple different audiences through different channels then you may actually need multiple headshots photographed in a variety of ways.

In order to help you plan, prepare and NAIL your commercial portrait we have listed 10 tips below:

  1.  DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT TO ‘VISUALLY SAY’ & WHAT BACKDROP TO CHOOSE:

Sit down and think about what you want to say visually in your corporate image. If it’s a simple case of “here I am, I’m solid, professional and dependable” then it could well be that a straight-forward well posed and lit photograph with a clean and simple background is ideally suitable. But if you need to communicate more about your personality, the type of work you do, or a certain style or flair then think beyond the white background.

Here are some ideas for backgrounds below:

    • Office backdrops add weight and with the right props can instantly label you in your profession

    • Soft furnished interior backgrounds, like a home or cafe, can make you feel warm and friendly, almost homely

    • Interesting architectural angles and structures can give the impression of a structured mind a deep but disciplined thinker

    • Artwork, sculpted curved lines can give the equal impression of the thinker but with a more creative person

    • Outdoor nature backdrops can communicate a more open, fresh and vibrant personality

 2. GET YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER TO SHOOT TWO DIFFERENT LOOKS TO GIVE YOU OPTIONS:

Often, when we photograph corporate portraiture for clients we shoot a couple of locations or backgrounds to give them options. You will be surprised when you’re given the two options, you may like one over the other or even both. We invariably go to our client’s office and set up a micro studio and shoot a series of standard neutral background colour images, but then expand out to a second location and shoot more in-situ work or outdoor nature style that communicates more about the person, their work and working environment.

3. HAVE THE WHOLE TEAM PHOTOGRAPHED ON THE SAME DAY WITH TIME SLOTS:

To minimise disruptions in the office, we suggest coordinating a day with the whole team to have your commercial portraits. Ideally, our process is to spend a block of time shooting all staff who require headshots rather than piecemeal one or two every now and again. This allows us to be consistent across all images.

4. CHOOSE A COMPLEMENTING COLOUR PALETTE FOR YOUR CLOTHING:

Does your company have any key branding colours? Or you have a certain colour tone that contrasts your background. Putting a logo in your image can sometimes be considered a bit over the top but subtly bringing in a colour palette that is intrinsically linked with your brand can be very powerful.

Alternative to this, we highly suggest going with a neutral or coloured palette of complementing colours. We have given some ideas below.

5. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST & CONSIDER HAIR & MAKEUP:

We always advise our clients to get a good night’s sleep before the shoot, dress appropriately, stay clear of colours that might reflect onto and colour your skin. For the ladies, we highly recommend getting hair and makeup done if you have the budget as it makes you feel a million dollars and comes up beautifully on camera. It gives you such a professional edge and very clean look.

We hope these tips can help you when planning your next commercial portraits photoshoot. Personalised Fitness Branding with F45 Mackay: Unique Content Creation for your business

IMAGERY

Grabbing the attention  of NEW and existing customers in an instant!

The imagery you use to market yourself will often be the first contact your potential customers will have with you and your brand. Those potential customers will draw lasting conclusions about you and your services/products from those images and since first impressions are lasting impressions, getting that introduction right is critical.

But to be truly impactful, those images must communicate and uphold your brand identity and core values immediately and at first glance. In a crowded marketplace identifying photographers who can achieve both stunning images and effectively communicate brand values is critical. Moving from ‘stock photography’ imagery to personalised lifestyle and commercial imagery for your business is the first step to improving your business branding.

In addition, creating strong imagery that promotes your core values and is customised to your business also creates great social media content that your existing customers will be proud to associate themselves with and will in turn share to their communities, extending the reach of your online and offline marketing tactics.

We worked with the team at F45 Mackay creating personalised fitness lifestyle imagery communicating their brand identity, culture and fun environment.

Owners Lee & Kim wanted to capture their trainers, members and the atmosphere of their business with ‘real-life’ imagery. After taking the time to get to know the brand and it’s values we set up a series of “staged” images and worked in a documentary style during live training sessions to create a set of images unique to f45 Mackay and to Lee and Kim. These are now an integral part of their social media, website and off-line marketing. See their images below.

REAL Collaboration delivers REAL results for Fulton Hogan: Advertising & Marketing Campaign

Brisbane Commercial Advertising and Marketing Photography

Case Study: REAL Collaboration delivers REAL results for Clients Fulton Hogan

Concept:

LP Commercial Photography collaborated with Cross Copywriting & Creative to plan and create marketing and advertising imagery for a new marketing campaign for Fulton Hogan featuring their core values - combining the message that diversity = strength with Fulton Hogan's core people values - the REAL values

Message:

The REAL people of Fulton Hogan campaign was centred around the message that there is strength in diversity, which should be celebrated in all its forms

The Client:

Fulton Hogan Construction is a leading, fully integrated civil construction and maintenance business that has been building, maintaining and connecting the Asia Pacific Region for over 80 years. One of their key people values is known as the REAL values, which stand for Respect, Energy & Effort, Attitude and Leadership. Fulton Hogan’s REAL values are promoted company wide.

The business identified diversity as a key driver of their business and asked Cross Copywriting and Creative to conceptualise and deliver an internal campaign that would to put diversity front and centre and LP Commercial to create the imagery to align with this vision.

CC+C and LP Commercial collaborated their skills to successfully complete the project. CC+C presented a strategically sound creative concept that not only resonated with staff, but also had potential for a recruitment drive, to attract REAL people. We created professional, emotive imagery with their staff on site portraying those REAL people. The concept combined the message that diversity = strength with Fulton Hogan's core people values - the REAL values.

The Collaboration - Words from the client

LP Commercial Photography partnered with CC+C to deliver the marketing and advertising images for the HR campaign for Fulton Hogan Construction – the REAL People of Fulton Hogan.

Testimonial words from our collaborative client Philippa (CC+C)

“CC+C tasked LP Commercial Photography to capture eye-catching images that would drive home the strategic message that there is strength in diversity, emotive photos that drives home the benefits and beauty of strength in difference.

LP Commercial Photography added value to the overall campaign from the moment they were approached, investing themselves in the outcome of the project.

They guided the client and CC+C on the process involved in shooting a large number of laypeople on a live construction site. They were cognisant of the workplace health and safety requirements, attending a site induction before commencing the shoot on the day.

Andrew and Emily planned the shoot to minimise the impact of their presence on site. They selected an area on the site that would serve to produce enough variety in the shots themselves without impacting on the site itself. They saw in an active construction site how a piece of discarded metal or a temporary retaining wall would translate into beauty in photos.

The resulting images surpassed the expectations of the client who has already been in touch about a second shoot for a Fulton Hogan branding campaign.

The images were used in block mounted A1 posters to display in all FH offices around Australia and NZ. Flyers and post cards were also produced.

The posters were unveiled at the National Launch of the Diversity Strategy in an event in Qld attended by FH directors and board members from around the country.

Not only is everyone at Fulton Hogan who sees them extraordinarily impressed, but the project became the first in many collaborative efforts between CC+C and LP Commercial Photography.”

The two businesses have since partnered frequently on a variety of other successful projects. The relationship allows each creative professional to focus entirely on what they do best, trusting each other to do the same. The end result is always greater than the sum of its parts: Excellent Words and Perfect Picture that surpass client expectations every time.

Marketing Campaigns for Health, Wellness & Fitness Professionals: Standing out in a Competitive Market with Customised Commercial Advertising & Marketing Imagery

What’s the most attention grabbing thing when someone searches for you, your company or your product?

IMAGERY

This is the first contact many people will have with you. Simply having well taken imagery is not enough. At a glance, those images must also communicate and uphold your brand identity and core values, whether that’s advertising campaign photography, social media content or printed marketing material. In a crowded marketplace, identifying photographers who can achieve both stunning images and effectively communicate brand values is critical.

BTS on a Porsche Race Car Driver Photoshoot for Helimods - Brisbane Commercial Lifestyle Photography

Take a handful of Porsche racing cars, add one of the Australia’s top young racing drivers, mix in one of our favourite clients, add a dash of outdoor studio lighting and sprinkle liberally with a brand new stunningly sharp canon lens and you have the recipe for one hell of a commercial lifestyle photoshoot.

Our friends at Helimods at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, commissioned LP Commercial Photography to capture a set of images celebrating not only the end of their first year as sponsors of a Porsche race team, but also celebrating team driver and Helimods intern, Harri Jones, being crowned Australian Champion in his first season.

We managed to get our timing just right for the photoshoot, with Harri juggling dates between testing his new cars for next season in Germany, travelling back to the Sunshine Coast and sitting his university exams. As our shoot date approached, the weather changed and on the day we were faced with dark and gloomy skies as we drove up from Brisbane to Helimod’s airport-based headquarters. As our late afternoon shoot time approached we were faced with only the mildest hint of a crack in the clouds for a sunset.

Rescheduling wasn’t an option, so out came the big strobes, taking our studio lights on set to create some dramatic images with a 4 light setup.

The week of the shoot, we were lucky enough to have Canon lend us one of their new 28-70 f2 lenses to try out on the EOS R mirrorless cameras we are slowly transitioning to. The lens was fantastic, sharp all the way through its aperture range and a had a really crisp fall off in focus at the wider end. Coupled to the EOS R it was a great combo to shoot with.

See LP Commercial Photography behind the scenes fun below of our afternoon with Helimods, as well as a few images of the finished product.

Focusing On Getting The Perfect Images On A Staff Day Out... Brisbane Event and Commercial Photography

Focusing On Getting The Perfect Images On A Staff Day Out... Brisbane Event and Commercial Photography

Call me an old petrol head, but nothing quite gets the old heart pumping as the sound of a race car engine screaming from its low rumbling base to its high revving fury.

So when our Sunshine Coast-based high-tech aerospace engineering client Helimods asked me if I could do some documentary and event photography of their team spending the day with a GT3 Race car they sponsor (with their intern Harri Jones as the driver!)… how could I say no!

On a blistering hot Queensland summer day with the track temperature in the mid to high 50’s we all got together for an exciting day of roaring engines and exhaust fumes.

Internal events like these are all about building that feeling of camaraderie between staff, boosting morale and about rewarding and giving back to staff for all their hard work by giving them an experience they otherwise would not have.

Helimods excels in this area. They are an incredibly hard-working company where performance is critical. Their work goes sometimes quite literally on the front line in the worlds of defence, rescue and emergency services. But despite the never-ending pressure of performance there are few companies I have worked with or visited where every member of staff seems to be on board for the challenge and where professional and non-professional camaraderie is shared across departments to create a very focussed and happy working environment.

It’s one of the reasons we love taking professional advertising, marketing and social media images for Helimods. They are incredible clients and simply do things properly.

But for the photographer at internal staff events it is really critical not to get lazy or underestimate the images being taken. It’s about so much more than just taking quick snaps of people having fun.

When undertaking event photography for internal events, for any client it’s very important to understand how the images will be used and that knowledge must then shape how you photograph the day.

Yes of course you are there to take professional quality photographs for the team, recording their day and the fun and excitement. But the images will also be used by the business in their social media feeds to present themselves; perhaps as a great place to work with friendly happy staff to help in recruitment and staff retention; as a go getter business promoting in a soft way its links back to the original sponsorship and the aspirational qualities of that sponsorship; underlining it’s core values to a wider business community; showing both competitors and potential clients that this is a company that treats it’s staff right and is a good company to be doing business with;… and so on.

Beyond that though, the individual staff members will also use those images in their own social media channels showing what a great and exciting day they had…. the classic “this was my office today…” post or just in excited outbursts to friends and family.

In a world of ever-expanding social networking you never know where your photographs will end up, with, or who they will be put in front of. As photographers we have to be mindful of this to ensure the business or company and it’s values are represented correctly. A poorly structured image with staff not appropriately dressed, safely issues being present or even having the wrong PPE can easily end up in the wrong hands and have some serious consequences.

As a result, it’s not enough for a photographer to think: “oh it is just an internal event so let’s just get some nice shots of everyone having fun” we have to treat all events with an eye for attention to detail.

Yes it is all about staff having fun, but the clients brand equity and values must be reflected in every shot so how are the staff in your images having fun and is the behaviour acceptable, are the images showing safe behaviour with appropriate PPE or other procedures being followed despite the team having fun. Is there branding in the shots, are staff presented in clean cut fashion if that is important to the brand. All these factors and more have to be taken into account to produce a set of images that not only capture a great fun day out for the team, reflect the photographers style, creativity and quality but also provide real marketing image value for the client.

Andy
